Oakwood's News

Posted by Oakwood - April 26th, 2012

It's been a while since I made a post, so here's one.

My song Black Keys became 3rd in the Represent A Country contest. No prize, but I don't care, because it got quite some attention and it was a great track to produce. In fact, it's probably one of my best ones.

About a week ago I uploaded Hardwell & Dannic - Kontiki (LiquidOoze Remake), it's really a great song so I suggest you listen to it and download it. I made a sweet promo for it too, check it out.
By the way, my exams are approaching (they begin the 14th of May) so that was probably the last song I made before I lock myself up and start studying like hell. :(

Btw, Newgrounds has a new feature that lets me show links to my stuff around the web, it's under Contact Info to the left. So subscribe to me on Youtube, like me on Facebook, follow me on Twitter and SoundCloud and download my shit at Bandcamp, capiche?

LiquidOoze out.

I was kinda bored today, so I decide to make a wallpaper version of my logo, and it turned out pretty well, so go check it out in the Art Portal or something. I'm using it as my background now and it looks really good

For some reason my song Bang-O-Rang is, compared to my other songs, getting a lot of views on Youtube. Apparently it now gets about 500-1000 views a week, which is a lot to me. So now I'm randomly putting the video here :)

Lately I find myself playing a lot more (non-medal) Newgrounds games that I used to, must be the redesign :)

I'm going through an EXTREMELY busy period, exams are coming up (in May) and I gotta study a lot. I really have to take my music production to a lower level, but I'll try to still do it as much as I can.
Speaking of which, I'm trying to pick up some older, semi-abandoned projects so I can finally clean out my folders. At the start of 2012 I re-arranged my whole PC and put all my songs in a very well organized folder, but the unfinished .flp's are still flying around, so I gotta finish at least some of them (I'm not gonna delete them, nostalgia and stuff). I've been thinking about making a compilation full of WIP's, just for fun.

I've send a song to a label called Qbed Records, it's a dance song called 'Party for the Living' and it's gonna be featured on one of their 'Rumble' compilations. The project is still under construction and the exposure won't be that much, but it's a start.
It seems that I have discovered Dada Life as well because for some reason all my recent songs follow their style. And not only that, but they're also pretty good. I started sending demos to labels again, this time with some more confidence. The last time I did this my track Overdrive was among the demo tracks, like that would get accepted).

I have proof that I started working on older projects again because I reworked my loop On Higher Levels from back in 2011, and made it a full song, as demanded by a lot of reviewers. You can find it here on Newgrounds and Youtube, and the HQ version is a free download on my Bandcamp

So yeah, that's for now. LiquidOoze out!

Redesign is here, at last!

I guess it's time for me to clean this place up a bit. I started already by tagging all of my songs with my initials (LO), and with LO-RMX in case of remixes. From now on I'll also use CD icons. It's time for me that I step up and become a true NG musician/audiophile.
Here's some stuff to enjoy:
Youtube
SoundCloud
Bandcamp
Twitter
Facebook
ReverbNation (under construction)
Chances are I'll also start publishing on VibeDeck soon. Remember that my songs will ALWAYS BE FREE!

Also, I was gonna upload a celebration song for the NG redesign but apparently the mp3 is invalid so that's not gonna happen. Surry.

I've uploaded my first submission of 2012, a remix of Afrojack ft. Shermanology - Can't Stop Me. You can download a higher quality version on my SoundCloud.

I'm gonna use disk icons again, for the heck of it. I'm also gonna label my songs with LO from now on, so people can tell which songs are mine. All my remixes are now also tagged with LO-RMX, including this one.

I've also been hit up by a label called Qbed Records, they wanna use one of my songs on a charged compilation. Trigger excitement!

As of now, none of my songs contain any elements under copyright. How's that for a start of a new year?

My remix of Blue by Eiffel 65 is now deleted, and unfortunately, it's gone forever, because I no longer have the edible file. I downloaded the mp3 before deleting it though, so if you ever wanna hear it (it sucks balls, beware) shoot me a PM and I can link it to you.

My remix of I'll Fly With You by Digi d'Agostino is gone as well. I still have the .flp for that one but because it had vocals all over the place removing those would result in an extremely broing song, so yeah. It's still on my old Youtube account so you can still listen to it there.

My remix of Waving FLag by K'naan is NOT deleted, I just edited the intro so that it no longer contains samples from the original. The one with the samples is still on my old Youtube account and also on SoundCloud.

Last but not least, my remix of Maximal Crazy by Tiesto has also been edited. All the vocals are now gone, which was a pain in the ass to do because it left really annoying silences, but I didn't want to delete it because it's so awesome. The one with vocals can be listened practically everywhere, which is on my current Youtube account, on SoundCloud and on Bandcamp.

-------------

In completely other news, I created my first tutorial, which shows how to recreate all the leads (in terms of notes, not sounds) of Deadmau5 - Animal Rights ft. Wolfgang Gartner. You should check it out.

I also joined another remix contest, this is my submission:

I've got loads of tracks in the making, so keep your eyes peeled! This year is gonna be a good one!

So lately I've seen several artists being reported or even having their music deleted because they broke the law of copyright. Amng these artists, some are very well-known and talented. This got me to thinking: I also have several songs that contain copyrighted material. In fact, the following songs contain elements that have copyright on them:

Eiffel 65 - Blue (LiquidMix) - I actually used the whole song here, it's one of my first songs and I totally wasn't familiar with copyright back then
Digi d'Agostino - I'll Fly With You (LiquidMix) - contains the acapella of the remixed song. Even though the acapella was a legal download, it probably still has copyright.
K'naan - Waving Flag (LiquidMix) - Contains a small element of the original song. Obviously under copyright. Very heavy copyright actually, considering it's the anthem of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
Tiesto - Macimal Crazy (LiquidMix) - Contains a vocal sample from the orignal song.

So obviously, I broke the rules here. It would be more than right to replace these songs with version without the copyrighted elements, or even fully delete the songs. But I am not doing this unless I'm being reported. I'm not sure if this is clever, as some artists had their songs deleted without them getting any messages. But when I get reported, I want to negotiate with a moderator. Having all my songs deleted would be a disaster and probably be the end of my Newgrounds career. Why do I wanna negotiate? Because I am still not quite familiar with copyright and I excatly wanna know what the limit is. For my remix of 'Blue', that's obvious. But what about the 'I'll Fly With You' remix? Isa legal acapella illegal on Newgrounds?
So, in order to prevent this, I've edited the author's comments on all these songs containing a message about the material that's under copyright and how I want to be contacted by a mod. I hope it will help once I eventually get reported.

So, in case a moderator or an admin is reading this, you know what to do! And if it wasn't clear yet, I'm openly admitting I used forbidden elements and that I was wrong to do so!

So, after my insane lack of activity in terms of uploading new songs, I finally have a new song up called Overdrive. You can also listen it and download it on SoundCloud, but for the full quality version you can also download it for free on Bandcamp. It also on Youtube already, this time with a less boring cover.

In other news, I signed up to Facebook and also made a ReverbNation account, which I still have to get the hang of. I'm also on Twitter so follow me! :)

Stay tuned!

So, I didn't win F-777's remix contest, but that's okay, because instead of buying my remix on Itunes you can now get it in the AP for free: F-777 - Glancing Back (LiquidMix)

I also did a second edit of my song Overdrive (which is not on NG), it was requested by a label. I hope they'll accept it because that would be my first official release (on Beatport!). If you're interested, it is here on SoundCloud.

I currently have 3 projects in the making:
- A mix between Dance and Fidget House called 'Goodwell Inc.', ~50% done;
- A Swedish House track called 'Stockholm' (lawl), ~20% done;
- A bootleg of 'Princess of China' by Coldplay which is gonna be EPIC, ~50% done.

Aaaaand that's it. Here's my Twitter, follow me! :)

Ciao!

Yesterday I was utterly surprised when I saw that my first Dubstep song ever Bang-O-Rang became second in the Madness Day 2011 Audio Contest, but it also made me very happy. It's actually the first time I made money from Newgrounds. Thanks a lot for the support guys!
Here's the video on Youtube for relevance. The high-quality version is on Bandcamp for free.

Also, in the past 2 weeks I barely had any internet, so I had enough time to produce some awesome tunes (and rape the Battlefield 3 beta on PS3), and I've got some songs here that are pretty close to finishing, so keep your eyes peeled! ;)

Ok that's it. Follow me on Twitter for updates!
